US imposes visa bans on Honduran officials over 2025 election disputes
As outlined in reports, Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that the visa of Mario Morazan was revoked under Section 221(i) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, citing conduct that “undermin(e) democracy in Honduras by impeding the vote count.”
In addition, authorities rejected a visa request submitted by Marlon Ochoa and imposed restrictions on another unnamed individual under Section 212(a)(3)(C) of the same law, a provision that allows entry bans for actions deemed to carry potentially serious negative consequences for US foreign policy.
In its response, Washington warned that “The United States will not tolerate actions that undermine our national security and our region’s stability,” further stressing, “We will consider all appropriate measures to deter those impeding the vote count in Honduras.”
Officials clarified that the actions were implemented in accordance with Sections 212(a)(3)(C) and 221(i) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, reinforcing the US position against interference in democratic processes.
